Glossy mags are apparently the way to go

LUXE, a high-gloss, oversized magazine targeting wealthy readers, has grown steadily since its inaugural issue
in June 2005. Ad revenue for the quarterly Colorado architectural and design magazine is up 40 percent since its
premiere, and circulation rose from 22,000 to 30,000, said Dana Meacham, LUXE group publisher.
Boca Raton, FL based Sandow Media owns LUXE. It plans to imitate the Colorado version with a Texas LUXE later this year.
"I don't know of another magazine that has had this growth," Meacham said. "It shows this market it open to something
beautiful like LUXE."
Meacham said printing on premium paper and paying high-priced photographers and writers has made LUXE the most
expensive magazine she's ever produced.
LUXE tries to boost its presence in book stores by providing its own shelving.
LUXE Colorado is distributed in six states, including New York, Florida and California. The next issue—which will have
272 pages and is priced at $6.95—will hit newsstands April 30, selling at Barnes and Noble, Tattered Book Store,
Borders and elsewhere. The magazine prints quarterly.
